Located in Boulder, Rosetta Hall captivates with its transformation from a sophisticated food hall to a lively nightclub after dinner service. Collaborating with the owners during the early stages of the historic theater's renovation, our goal was to design a lighting system that could beautifully illuminate the European-style food hall by day and immerse visitors in a dynamic club experience by night.
Using a distributed system of modular components, we embraced the triangle as the fundamental element. Crafting 20 pendant lights from aluminum and acrylic, we achieved circadian-adapted daylighting during the day and mesmerizing dynamic lighting effects during the evening. The transition from dining to dancing never fails to leave an impression.
Integrating the lighting system required close collaboration with the architecture, interior design, and MEP teams. Through extensive previsualization and a carefully designed mounting package, we ensured adaptability to the evolving construction conditions.
Our autonomous system extends its control to every lamp throughout the building, including the bathrooms, lobby, and kitchens. Seamlessly transitioning between circadian daylighting and immersive nighttime party lighting, it creates a captivating atmosphere throughout.
Our approach to designing durational, generative looks remains true to our signature hyper-minimalistic style. We believe in subtlety and nuanced behavior, enticing viewers to explore and discover the complex inner life of the lighting installation.
